Rani Mukerji became a great dancer

Actor Rani Mukerji, who is going out of her way to promote her upcoming film Aiyyaa, directed by Marathi filmmaker Sachin Kundalkar, took a four-month break to prepare for the songs in the film, especially the belly-dance number. An insider from the production house reveals that the actor underwent a rigorous workout to get in shape for three songs in the film, Dreamum WakepamAga BaiHalla Machaye Re and the lavni song. Rani wanted to have a perfectly toned body as the dance moves would show off her abs.

Sachin confirms the news saying, “It was not only about getting into shape. Rani also wanted to learn the traditional lavni dance and belly-dancing. So we decided to shoot the numbers in April.” Sachin had completed shooting the rest of the film in December last year. Initially, however, the director had wanted to wrap up the song sequence along with the shoot of the film, in one go. “By the end of December, Prithviraj and Rani were exhausted by the shooting of the entire film. They wanted to rest for a bit and then work on the steps for the dances. Both the actors underwent intense workouts and training,” Sachin says. “The trainer who came down from Delhi held sessions with Rani for belly-dancing and yoga, every day for four months,” the director adds.

South star Prithviraj, who plays the male lead opposite Rani, didn’t have an easy time either. “The south actor also worked out intensely because of the ripped body I needed him to show off in the song,” says Sachin. The director shot for 15 days at a stretch to finish shooting the three songs.

Jointly produced by Anurag Kashyap and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Aiyyaa releases on October 12
